A colour mapping descriptor is a 2 word block accepted by OS_SpriteOp 52, 56, and 65 to perform virtually arbitrary colour transformations as a sprite is plotted. For example, applying a sepia effect would be possible.
The function called is the same as a ColourTrans transfer function.
