About AcornSearch

AcornSearch (now available at acornsearch.org, previously acornsearch.com) is a dedicated search engine for information relating to RISC OS and classic Acorn computers.

AcornSearch also automatically indexes and archives publicly available RISC OS content that it finds online in an effort to allow historic access to older RISC OS related apps that would otherwise be lost forever

The service is intended to help users locate articles, documentation, and other resources relating to Acorn hardware and software, with particular emphasis on the Acorn Archimedes range and the BBC Microcomputer.

AcornSearch is a free service and does not ask for, or make any money. It's aims are to help locate RISC OS related information and software on the web and be a starting point for people repairing or getting their old machines working

History

AcornSearch was originally provided as part of the drobe.co.uk web site, which for many years acted as a central source of news and information for the RISC OS community.

The service has since become independent once again, and now operates under its own domain. This allows AcornSearch to remain focused on providing a useful and relevant search facility for Acorn and RISC OS users.

Filebase Archive

In addition to web search facilities, AcornSearch hosts a filebase archive containing software and related material for classic Acorn systems.

The archive includes applications, utilities, documentation and other files for:

  • Acorn Archimedes and A-series computers
  • BBC Micro and related 8-bit Acorn systems
  • RISC OS based machines and emulators

Many of these files are no longer easily available elsewhere, and the archive exists to help preserve them for current and future users.

Community and Preservation

AcornSearch is provided for the benefit of the Acorn and RISC OS community. Its aim is to improve access to information and to assist in the preservation of software and documentation for historically important computing platforms.

Users with additional material, documentation or software which may be of interest are encouraged to make contact.
